Betty Thomas, J.P.

Betty Thomas is a Justice of the Peace who loves to interact with people and especially with couples to assist with the planning of their special day. She has years of experience as a wedding officiant and excels at treating couples and their guests with respect ensuring that the dignity and solemnity of the occasion is maintained.  Betty’s warm, caring and compassionate character, ensures that couples and their guests feel comfortable with her presence. During the initial interview process, couples are given flexible wedding ceremony options and an opportunity to personalize plans for their special day. She is flexible, organized, punctual and responsible. Betty has extensive experience as a confident and effective public speaker, by modulating her vocal tone to emphasize important points in the wedding ceremony and is described by couples as “being the best JP in the world”, and “having a wonderful presence”. Betty offers her service all year round, any day of the week, any location and venue in Nova Scotia. LGBT couples are welcome.

Betty is the consummate volunteer, she has and continues to spend a great deal of her time trying to make our society a better place for all Nova Scotians, whether it is a member on a Provincial Government Board or previously as a Lioness, a member of the library board, or the Producer/Host of “Equality Issues” on cable tv, a program used to educate and bring awareness to the public about equality issues in HRM.

Some of the Honours she has received include Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, WP Oliver Wall of Honour, Lioness and Metro United Way awards and certificates for outstanding volunteer service and honoured by HRM for contributions to the community. She received a “Notice of Motion Resolution” by Honourable Leo Glavine in the Nova Scotia Legislature for her exemplary volunteer service, April 2018.
